Voices from the West Bank
by the American Friends of the Palestinian House of Freedom
As we all know, we are in incredibly fraught times, both here in the US and in the Middle East. Israel has attacked Iran and Iran is bombing Israel in response. Israel has already taken territory in Syria and Lebanon. Israel is starving and bombing Gaza, and beginning to annex the West Bank. Netanyahu and his fascist Israeli government are unleashed.
Please join us on Sunday June 22 at 4-5pm ET for a timely conversation with Mohammed and Majed Sawalha, co-directors of the Palestinian House of Friendship, located in Nablus on the West Bank.
Per Mohammed, immediately following its attack on Iran, Nablus was raided and besieged by more than 1500 Israeli soldiers while the city was on total lockdown. Eighty-five people were injured, 41 young men were detained, and two brothers were killed while trying to rescue their elderly mother who was trapped in her house. Soldiers have been using people’s homes as interrogation centers.
In addition, the Israeli government is preventing Palestinian companies from importing and exporting goods. This will have an immediate negative effect on the economy and result in a lack of commodities, food and cash for Palestinians in the West Bank.
Under these circumstances PHF continues to work to create a better life for the children and families they serve and provide necessities to families in their community. As Mohammed says, “We will never give up!
Please RSVP here to join us on June 22! And if you feel moved to donate, we continue to raise funds for PHF’s “Boxes of Love” to be distributed in Nablus; the link to donate is here. Our donations are not subject to the Israeli blockade, thankfully. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.
Best,
