Organizing and Protecting Our Communities: Understanding Trump’s Authoritarian Ban
by Muslims for Just Futures
In light of the authoritarian travel/entry ban, and the escalation of state violence in Los Angeles, we are inviting everyone to join us for a member call to discuss our organizing in this moment and other resources we may need:
TOMORROW, Wednesday June 11th, 6:30-8pm ET/5:30-7pm CT/3:30-5pm PT
More context on what we'll cover:
Entry Ban
Trump's authoritarian ban- impacting 19 countries- is now in effect as of this Monday. The list of countries on this entry ban include Muslim majority countries, African, Caribbean and other countries.
What it does it mean for Muslims in the U.S? What can we expect from this ban? How can we protect our ourselves and our communities?
More details on the ban in our FAQ resource here, and see below for further resources
Organizing in Our Communities
On the call we'll launch our Muslim Ban social media + organizing toolkit which will offer suggestions on how we can build power and protect ourselves locally, and uplift information about our communities.
We'll have regional breakouts to discuss localized organizing strategies.
Military Forces/National Guard Deployed in Los Angeles; Continued ICE escalation
Over the weekend we saw a dangerous and unprecedented escalation by the Trump administration: the national guard was deployed against communities who were showing up in defense of their neighbors and opposing ICE activity. This marks a turning point—the first time the President has deployed the military during this presidential term in response to local immigrant community defense efforts. As of today, they are joined by U.S. Marines - US military forces - against the will of the CA governor and the mayor of LA. Read more of our analysis here.
