June 11, 7:00 PM EDT - in person Newton MA (location shared after RSVP)

Special Screening of Acclaimed Film“Lyd" - June 11

Sawa is pleased to continue our Community Building gatherings, where members and friends discuss a film or book relevant to our mission and our concerns. At our next gathering, on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:00 pm, we will watch and discuss the widely acclaimed Lyd (2024), a “sci-fi documentary”, directed by Sarah Friedland and Rami Younis.

Lyd tells the story of a bustling Palestinian town that was conquered by Israeli forces in 1948. In a brilliant blend of documentary and animation, the film traces the city’s ancient roots, the murders and forced expulsion of its inhabitants, the experiences of those in exile, and the lives of the few who remained. Through futuristic segments, the film also imagines Lyd as a multicultural city where Christians, Muslims, and Jews live together in freedom and harmony. In the context of continuing conflict and ethnic cleansing, this rich documentation of one community’s complex history offers us not only lessons from the past but possibilities for the future.

We hope you’ll join us on June 11 for this special showing of a "must-see" film. Register at this link: https://forms.gle/nSAWgY9cJqPJJZie7, and please complete a separate form for each attendee. You will receive notice of the location a few days in advance of the screening.
