Global Solidarity: A New Year of Resistance

by Open University Friends of Palestine

Join us Sunday 9th of February for an online speaker event, discussing the various means of resistance available to us going into the new year. This event is aimed at looking forward and energising us, as we enter the next chapter in this fight. There will also be a live performance!

The Open University Friends of Palestine warmly invites you to our first public event of 2025, pulling together a broad range of speakers to discuss what it means to resist in our individual and collective capacities.

Speakers will discuss the power of a global solidarity movement, BDS campaigns, students’ role in resistance, direct action as a means of affecting change, and resistance through art- including a live performance from up and coming Irish / Palestinian rapper and spoken word artist- Speit.

Dr. Jonathan Fluxman grew up in apartheid South Africa. He is a retired GP, and a member of IJAN (International Jewish Anti-Zionist Alliance) and HW4P (Healthcare Workers for Palestine). He believes adamantly in the power of BDS to isolate Israel entirely, and the fundamental right to be anti-Zionist and express anti Zionist views.

Haya Adam is a second year suspended student and activist at SOAS university, and the president of the uni’s Palestine society. She is in her second year of law and international relations, being suspended for the past 8 months. Haya was involved in the SOAS liberated zone encampment, and campaigns tirelessly for Palestine despite repression from her university and the state.

Palestine Action is a global direct action network dedicated to ending the supply of weapons to Israel, by non-violent means that prove necessary. PA is responsible for many big BDS wins, and has garnered a reputation in the movement for being highly effective.

Speit is an Irish / Palestinian rapper and spoken word artist. He is an up and coming artist, and has been gaining recognition for his activism through his words. Speit travels to the West Bank yearly to visit his family, and is a powerful voice for freedom.

We hope this event will provide a broad look at what it means to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and resist by the means available to us.
