Join us on Labor Day to celebrate the historic wins and contributions of the workers that make our society run, with an afternoon of free food and drinks, games, and activities! Workers make the world run, and Labor Day is the perfect time to celebrate the achievements of the working class in Rhode Island and look to the wins ahead.

Over the past year, just in our small state alone, we have seen workers in all industries come together to fight for what they deserve. From last year’s practice pickets at UPS that won a historic contract, to the months-long strike by Pawtucket DHL workers, to the victories won by the groundskeepers at RISD, workers in Rhode Island are standing up. And just this month, Providence hotel workers with UNITE HERE! approved a possible strike in coordination with thousands of other workers on both coasts. Rhode Island workers are organizing new unions too, with our first unionized Starbucks location as well as Youth Pride Inc. workers organizing within a small nonprofit to join SEIU 1199 New England.

Both here and across the country, workers are also developing an international outlook. For nearly a year, millions of workers across the labor movement have been standing in solidarity with Palestine and calling for a ceasefire, representing the beginning of a larger shift within the labor movement and the wider anti-imperialist movement in the United States. Workers are standing up not only for ourselves, but for our fellow workers everywhere!

The working class in Rhode Island have been fighting for a lot. Labor Day gives us a chance to relax, hang out, meet new friends in other unions, and reflect on our progress.

So join us this Labor Day for food, fun, and the opportunity to celebrate and share stories from the movement over the last year, and how we can build for worker power in the next one!
