12/6 (Zoom) 4pm - Launch of Refaat Alareer's Story Collection Memorial Edition "Gaza Writes Back" with Helena Cobban, Ali Abunimah and 4 of the Contributing Writers (Just World Books)

Launch of Gaza Writes Back Memorial Edition

On Friday, December 6, Just World Books is launching a Memorial Edition of Refaat Alareer’s breakthrough story collection Gaza Writes Back. It has a new Foreword by Electronic Intifada's Ali Abunimah and other new material in the backmatter.

On Friday, too, at 4 pm ET, Ali and I and four of the Gaza-Palestinian writers who contributed powerful stories to Gaza Writes Back, will present an English-language webinar to reflect on Dr. Refaat's life and legacy. These four are: Sarah Ali, with us live from Cambridge, UK; Rawan Yaghi, live from Ontario; Dr. Mohammed Sulaiman, live from South Australia; and Dr. Yousef Aljamal, via a message pre-recorded in his home in Türkiye.

Please join us if you can. And please help us spread the word about this deeply meaningful event.

Also noteworthy: This coming week will also see the release of a deeply valuable, new compilation of Refaat's poetry, prose, and essays that has been edited by Dr. Yousef Aljamal and that's been published by our friends at OR Books under the title of Refaat's iconic and somberly prescient poem, "If I Must Die".

This volume is a rich remembrance of the many ways in which my friend Refaat made a profound difference in the world. It has a lovely Editor's Introduction from Yousef and a Foreword by
Susan Abulhawa.
