Tuesday, January 16, 7:00 PM EDT - in person at the Chet and Sabra Avery Room in City Hall: 301 King Street, Alexandria, VA -Room 2000 (on the 2nd floor, across from the elevators).
In Alexandria, we have been meeting with our Human Rights Commission. We are trying to get them to bring a Ceasefire resolution forward to the city council. We are hoping to get as many local people as possible to come to the upcoming meeting on January 16th.
The main guest at the meeting is Rabbi David Spinrad of Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, VA. He was invited by the Commission to speak as a counter to our November guests, Rose Esber and Zeina Azzam who presented on the history and current context of the Israeli assault on Gaza. Rabbi Spinrad is very involved in city events, including much of their racial justice work, and he is leading the upcoming MLK Day commemoration in the city.
Rabbi Spinrad is a Zionist who recently visited Israel, and his wife is from Israel. When Alexandria City High School students walked out to support a ceasefire, the Rabbi protested across the street. He accused the students of antisemitism and being misinformed.
The agenda is attached to this email for those who would like to review it.
Members of the public each have 3 minutes to speak on the record at the meeting. This is after the guests speak. (However, if you are running late I will ensure you are given your time to speak).
Feel free to invite anyone else you would like to bring to the meeting on the 16th, and let us know if you plan to attend so we can get a general sense!
