Eyes on ICE, Day long standouts Sundays at Delaney Hall, 451 Doremus Hall, Newark NJ, 9am - 12pm / 1pm - 4pm / 5pm - 8:30pm DHS and DOD confirmed plans to use Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst as an ICE detention center. Few details were provided in a letter that was sent to members of Congress other than this “temporary use” would not interfere with military readiness. We also learned this week that ICE would no longer allow for people to post bond in order to get out of detention.
What we do know is that DHS and ICE are wasting no time since the passage of the big disastrous bill and that things are about to get much worse for our families, friends and neighbors.
We also know that we will face this darkness together with the courage and strength that comes from community and we will continue to respond with love and compassion.
Please join us every Saturday and Sunday until further notice outside #DelaneyHall where we provide what comfort we can to people who are coming to visit their loved ones. We loan umbrellas and give bottles of water to people forced to sit in the hot sun for hours. We also loan shoes and other items of clothing to people so they are not kept from visiting because of the dress code.
