9/13 (Zoom) 12pm - AFSC Weekly Action Hour: Updates from Gaza & Calling Congress (AFSC)

Fridays @ 12:00 PM EDT

Join us for AFSC’s weekly Action Hour for a Cease-fire Now. Every Friday, we’ll get the latest updates from AFSC staff in Gaza and take action to end the violence. Together, we'll make calls to the White House and Congress, write letters, and talk about how to use our collective voice to call for peace.

For the months of June, July, August (and now also September) we are on summer hours! First Fridays (July 5th, August 2nd & Sept 6) will be one hour with guests. All other Fridays will be 30 minutes with time for updates from Gaza, calling Congress, and event announcements.

This Friday we will hear from Odeliya Matter with the Friends Committee on National Legislation. Odeliya will share insight into protests and the political landscape in Israel.

With the start of the new school year in the U.S., our call last Friday focused on education. You can read more about the lives of children in Gaza in the midst of genocide from our colleagues Firas and Yousef.

Please also take a look at this new report from Defense for Children International - Palestine called Targeting Childhood, these new infographics on education from Visualizing Palestine, and this information on scholasticide from Al Mezan Center for Human Rights.

Updates from Gaza - In order to allow you to share Yousef’s updates from Gaza more easily with others, we’ve begun posting them on our Gaza Unlocked website. You can find the full update from our Friday call and the weeks before here

Artist Corner - On Friday, we featured The Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, which is built around the ambitious vision of having a lively and creative musical culture in every Palestinian home. There are six branches of the conservatory, one in Gaza and five in the occupied West Bank. Over a thousand students study in the conservatory.

Please also find out more about our previously featured artists, MC Abdul, Fayez al-Hassani, Irina Naji, Malak Mattar, Ashraf Hamad, the The Olive Tree Collection, the Protest Banner Lending Library, Shahzaad Raja, and Naomi Shihab Nye.
