Thursday: Doctors Speak on Israel’s Targeting of Civilians, US Complicity, and the Leahy Law in Gaza
Join DAWN for an online event, Thursday, August 28, at 2:30 PM ET, with three international doctors who have served in Gaza, discussing Israel’s targeting of civilians there, and the U.S. government’s failure to apply the Leahy Law, which prohibits U.S. support to Israeli security forces committing gross violations of human rights.
For the last 22 months, Palestinian medical professionals in Gaza and their international colleagues have spoken of treating waves of civilian casualties, some of whom appear to have been targeted by Israel’s military, even as Israel was attacking Gaza’s health infrastructure and restricting vital medical supplies. However, despite substantial evidence of gross violations of human rights, U.S. military aid has continued to flow to Israeli forces in Gaza.
Three international doctors who served in Gaza, working alongside Palestinian colleagues in extremely difficult circumstances, will be joined by DAWN experts on the Leahy Law to discuss the apparent attacks on civilians in Gaza that they responded to, the U.S.’s obligations under the Leahy Law, and efforts to ensure that law is enforced.
Expert panelists for our Thursday online discussion include:
Mark Brauner: DO, Emergency Physician, Leahy Review Now organizer
Adil Hussain: MD, Emergency Physician
Mimi Syed: DO, MBA, FACEP, Emergency Medicine
Charles Blaha: DAWN Senior Advisor, and former State Department official
Raed Jarrar: DAWN Advocacy Director
The discussion will be moderated by Alexander Langlois, Senior Editor of DAWN's journal, Democracy in Exile.
Register Now to join DAWN Thursday at 2:30 PM ET for this important online event.
PS - Please sign our petition telling Senate and House leaders to demand that Secretary of State Rubio immediately block U.S. military assistance to Israeli units credibly implicated in gross violations of human rights, as required by the Leahy Law.
