We Will Not Look Away: A Vigil for Grief, Kinship, and Refusal in the Face of Genocide
by SAND
Please join us along with Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb @rabbilynngottlieb, Ashira Darwish @premashira, Rae Abileah @raeabileah and friends for a reckoning; a collective refusal; a gathering of those who cannot stay silent while genocide is being livestreamed.
What is happening in Gaza is not just "a tragedy," it is a crime. Entire communities are being starved, bombed, and erased while the world scrolls past. As people of spirit and conscience, we are called not to look away. This vigil is a line in the sand, a refusal to become numb. It is a sacred space for collective witnessing, where silence is broken by prayer, grief becomes fuel, and presence becomes protest.
We come because we refuse to normalize atrocity. We come to grieve every stolen Palestinian life, every child starved, every family erased. We come to grieve the collapse of our shared humanity and to reignite what remains.
This is a call to stay awake in the face of unbearable violence and to remember that authentic spiritual life can never be separate from moral clarity.
Funds from the gathering will go to Project Hope, providing water in Gaza.
Bring what you need to stay present:
A candle — to honor the lives taken
A stone — to root into ancestral strength
A picture — of whom or what you cannot forget
An empty bowl — to honor those starving in Gaza, to make the cruelty visible
We will hold this grief together, so that it does not harden into despair but becomes a force for life, justice, and action. Join us and bring your heartbreak, your rage, your integrity. Let us stay awake, together.
Together in grief and love,
The SAND team
