About the Webinar - Arab Center Washington DC is organizing a webinar to unpack the recent shift in US policy toward Syria and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and to assess the regional implications of Washington’s rapprochement with Damascus.
Over the past two weeks, President Donald Trump officially ended the US sanctions program on Syria and removed HTS from the US list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. These actions have paved the way for the country’s reintegration into the global financial system and reaffirmed Washington's pledge to help Syria rebuild after years of devastating civil war. While many around the Middle East have welcomed these gestures from Washington, it remains unclear what Damascus will have to offer Trump in return and how it will affect regional dynamics.
