War’s Long Shadow, Part 2: The Medicine of Story - A Community Gathering with Jungwon Kim and Linda Thai

As the brutal assault and genocide in Gaza continue to unfold in real time—tearing apart families, communities, and our shared sense of humanity—we are called to remember that war is never past. It lives on in bodies, in lineages, in the silent, inherited wounds that shape our days. The expanding violence in the Middle East is not an isolated catastrophe; it is part of a longer arc of imperialist wars whose impacts reverberate across generations and across continents.

We invite you to join us in this tender gathering, where award-winning writer Jungwon Kim and therapist Linda Thai return to explore the enduring consequences of militarism, displacement, and cultural loss. Building on themes from their first conversation on generational war trauma, they will share personal stories from U.S. wars in Korea and Vietnam—histories often obscured or sanitized—and trace how these traumas embed themselves in families, rupture collective narratives, and complicate the search for belonging.

At a time when many feel compelled to look away or numb out, Jungwon and Linda invite us to stay present to the cost of war and to the possibility of healing. They will illuminate pathways for remembering and repair, for reconnecting to what war tries to sever: our humanity, our interdependence, our capacity to witness and grieve together.

This conversation is not simply about the past. It is an offering for this moment. It is an invitation to reflect on how trauma shapes who we are and how we respond to current atrocities—and to consider how the medicine of story can help us metabolize collective grief and reclaim the threads of cultural and relational wholeness.

We hope you will join us for this engaging conversation, the first community gathering since The Eternal Song Film Premiere & 7-Day Gathering. We are delighted to reconnect with you again. Together, we can honor the restorative power of narrative and remember: the shadows of war are long, but they are not all that remain.

With love,
The SAND team REGISTER
