Jews for Zohran Mass Call
by JVP Action
On June 24, we made history.
After months of mobilization, movement organizations across NYC helped make Zohran Mamdani the next Democratic nominee for Mayor, defeating Andrew Cuomo and upsetting a New York political dynasty in a landslide victory.
JVP Action endorsed Zohran on October 23 — the same day he launched his campaign. Over the course of the campaign, we mobilized thousands of volunteers across the city to fundraise, petition, knock doors, and make calls. Our volunteers ran canvasses in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island that knocked over 80,000 doors.
We knew that Zohran would build with our movements to put forward a vision rooted in the humanity and dignity of all people, of fairness and justice, and of a better life for the many. And we knew it would resonate with New Yorkers across the city.
Right now, Republicans, many in the Democratic establishment, and many in the mainstream media are spreading the lie that Jewish New Yorkers are scared of Zohran. This falsehood is rooted in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, and the conflation between Jewish people and the government of Israel.
But here’s the truth: Thousands of Jewish New Yorkers volunteered throughout this campaign for Zohran. They did so not in spite of his support for Palestinian freedom, but because of his support for Palestinian freedom.
Jewish New Yorkers threw down because in addition to fighting for a more fair and affordable NYC, Zohran has long been building with the Palestinian rights movement.
Whether it is in the streets getting arrested at protests calling for a halt to the U.S. weapons that are arming Israel’s genocide against Palestinians, leading a hunger strike in front of the Biden White House to demand a ceasefire, or introducing legislation to call for an end to private U.S. funding for illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Zohran has shown time and again that he embodies a politics of justice for all people — no exceptions.
Onwards,
Beth Miller, Political Director
