by Richmonders for Peace & Justice in Palestine (RPIP) & The Arab Association of Central Virginia

We invite you to join us at our upcoming program, “Palestinian Families Under Attack” featuring two short documentary films, one of which was just released a few weeks ago.  These films will be shown on Saturday, June 14th at 7 PM. The screenings will be followed by Q&A by Dr. Faedah Totah, associate professor in the School of World Studies at VCU.

This is a free event, but we ask that you reserve your seat by clicking HERE and selecting “get tickets”

The films: “My Neighborhood” (2012) - Mohammed El Kurd is a Palestinian boy growing up in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in the heart of East Jerusalem. When Mohammed turns 11, his family is forced to give up part of their home to Israeli settlers, who are leading a campaign of court-sanctioned evictions to guarantee Jewish control of the area.

This film gives you a glimpse of life in the occupied East Jerusalem and West Bank with the constant threat of displacement, and it also introduces you to a very young Mohammed El-Kurd, who is now a prominent Palestinian journalist with a new best-selling book, “Perfect Victims and the Politics of Appeal”.

“Severed” (2025) - This film features Mohamad Saleh, an 18-year-old from Gaza who has lived through five major assaults on the Gaza Strip.  In those attacks, he lost his home, family members, his best friends, and, at the age of 12, his leg. Now living in exile in Egypt, Mohamad struggles to piece together the shattered fragments of his life. Through his eyes, the pain and trauma endured by thousands in Gaza are laid bare, alongside their remarkable strength, resilience, and determination to live.

This event is being co-sponsored by Richmonders for Peace in Israel-Palestine (rpip.rva@gmail.com) and the Arab American Association of Central Virginia.
