5/20 (in person, DC) 5-8pm - Local Democracy Project Launch Series with Rep. Rashida Tlaib @ Busboys and Poets

From Lily Greenberg Call, Local Democracy Project - “I’m inviting you to a powerful gathering in Washington, D.C. on May 20th, hosted by the Local Democracy Project (LDP) — a new movement building power where the political establishment has long looked away.

After resigning from the Biden administration last year over its role in the genocide in Gaza, I knew I couldn’t just walk away—I had to do something. I'm excited to invite you to join me in building Local Democracy Project, because we can’t just react, we must organize. Together, we are building a path forward rooted in local power, justice, and the leadership of working people.

I resigned because I saw our party refusing to show moral leadership, and I knew I had to use my voice to take a stand for my values. That’s why I’m proud to announce that Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib will be joining us as our keynote speaker for this event.

Rashida has been a fearless voice for truth and justice—often standing alone, but never backing down. Her presence is more than symbolic; it’s a call to action.

Right now, Trump’s MAGA movement is dismantling democracy from the top down. Our rights are being attacked in Congress, in the courts, and in state legislatures. And the Democratic Party, in many cases, is meeting this crisis with caution.

We need something bolder.

Local Democracy Project is building from the bottom up. We’re recruiting candidates in rural and red districts. We’re funding local campaigns that others ignore. And we’re doing it with a vision for democracy that doesn’t start in Washington—it starts in our neighborhoods.

This isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a declaration that we’re not giving up on democracy. And we’re just getting started. And if you can't make it in Washington next week, I'm asking you to pitch in to help us build capacity to hit the ground running this summer.

I hope you’ll stand with us.”
