Join CJNV for our 10th Anniversary Virtual Gathering
The Center for Jewish Nonviolence has been bringing Jewish activists from around the world to join in Palestinian-led co-resistance work on the ground in Israel/Palestine for 10 years now.
In 2014, the Israeli army uprooted over a thousand fruit trees on Daoud Nassar’s family farm, the Tent of Nations, located just south of Bethlehem in the West Bank. The Nassar family has lived on this land for the last century, despite efforts by the Israeli government to displace them. CJNV’s founder, Ilana Sumka asked her long time friend and partner, what she could do and Daoud replied: come replant the trees with us in a show of solidarity, to demonstrate that the Israeli Army’s bulldozers don’t represent your Jewish values. 9 months later, in February 2015, 25 Jews from the US, Canada and Europe spent a week replanting trees on the farm and the Center for Jewish Nonviolence was born.
This year, we are marking 10 years of action-focused delegations, protective presence, agricultural support, and resource moving. 10 years of growing partnerships and friendships rooted in Palestinian-led coresistance and solidarity. And 10 years of learning from our Palestinian partners and helping to grow the network of activists engaged in this work on the ground and around the world.
On Sunday, May 18th, we’ll be gathering online with our community — with you — to hear stories and reflections from CJNV’s partners on the ground and from alumni around the world. We’ll also hear more about the work CJNV is doing right now and the look at the road ahead.
CJNV has been engaged in this work to end Israeli occupation and apartheid for 10 years, and it is important to be clear that we are standing on the shoulders of so many others who built the movement we came into. We’ve done a great deal and we recognize that our work and this movement must grow in size and impact if we are going to build a just future out of this devastating present. We want to make that happen with you.
In addition to this online gathering, CJNV alumni around the world are organizing local gatherings in the weeks to come in order to mark a decade of movement organizing together. If you are interested in organizing a gathering, getting connected to other alumni, or have questions about these gatherings, reach out to CJNV’s International Organizing Director at clare@cjnv.org.
We hope to see you on May 18th. RSVP here.
In solidarity,
CJNV Staff (Chase, Clare, Daniel, Dina, Oriel, and Scout)
