It’s not just another rally… it’s May Day! In May 1886 at what is now known as the Haymarket Uprising in Chicago, immigrant labor organizers fought and died for the eight hour work day. We’ve celebrated May Day ever since– and the powerful legacy of workers who came together across lines of difference to win big things for all of us.
This year, as workers across the country are being targeted, it’s time to renew that powerful legacy.
SURJ is organizing rallies across the country on May 1 in partnership with unions and other movement organizations to draw on that legacy and say: stop the billionaire agenda! Fight for working people!

On April 5, millions of us marched to protect our democracy. On May Day, we’re rising up for working people and the things we all need like better jobs, healthcare, and schools. And we’re demanding an end to the racist, anti-immigrant, transphobic scapegoating that’s trying to pit us against one another to break our power.
It’s important for organizations like SURJ to be building with and standing alongside the labor and immigrant rights movement right now. As Trump and his billionaire accomplices turn up the heat on our neighbors and communities, we need to be building together and moving as a collective. May Day is one important step in doing that.
