By Revolution Books in Harlem
Revolution Books has organized this 5:00pm program on short notice--and we thank Mosab for bending his schedule to bring his powerful and beautiful poetry to the RevBooks audience. This reading is taking place against the backdrop of the Trump fascist regime's outrageous but deadly serious call for the permanent expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza! Come hear Mosab and bring friends.
Mosab Abu Toha is a writer, poet, scholar, and librarian from the Gaza Strip. Forest of Noise is his new collection of poems written since Israel's genocidal invasion of Gaza. The book speaks of memories of orange trees, lost family, parenting in war, the devastation of leaving his family and friends behind.
"Powerful, capacious, and profound" -- Ocean Vuong, novelist and poet
In November 2023, when Mosab attempted to leave Gaza with his wife and three young children, he was kidnapped along with hundreds of other Palestinian men by the Israeli military. Widespread international outcry later forced his release.
Abu Toha is the founder of the Edward Said Library, Gaza's first English language library-- it has since been destroyed by the Israeli military. He has written from Gaza for The Nation, Literary Hub, the New York Times, and The New Yorker. He has appeared on NPR, MSNBC, Amanpour & Co. (CNN), and many other outlets.
Abu Toha was a student of Refaat Alareer, the beloved poet and teacher from Gaza who was assassinated by the IDF in December 2023. Abu Toha currently holds a visiting faculty position at Syracuse University.
Events at Revolution Books are co-sponsored by the Revolution Books Educational Fund, a tax-deductible 501(c)3 entitry.
