Book Group: Ghassan Kanafani, "Returning to Haifa" and "Men in the Sun"
Please join us (Reconstructionists Expanding the Conversation on Israel/Palestine) to discuss Ghassan Kanafani's classic stories "Returning to Haifa" and "Men in the Sun." Kanafani was one of the most famous and prolific Palestinian writers until his assassination in 1972. Like most of his works, "Returning to Haifa" and "Men in the Sun" explore the traumas of exile, migration, and the relationships between identity and place. "Returning to Haifa" tells the story of a Palestinian couple who, after the 1967 War, visit the home they were forced to flee in 1948. "Men in the Sun," Kanafani's acclaimed novella, follows three Palestinian refugees as they travel from Iraq to Kuwait seeking work.
