This powerful documentary unfolds an 18-month journey through war and revolution in Rojava Kurdistan NE Syria, chronicling the advance and victory of the Syrian Democratic Forces against ISIS. The film depicts both military life on the front lines and civil transformation, highlighting women's liberation and empowerment throughout. The film also grapples with the thorny ethical complications that develop as U.S. forces begin allying with Kurdish forces against ISIS, making strange bedfellows of anti-imperialists and the U.S. empire.
Following the screening, we'll host a panel discussion and Q&A featuring Alexis Daloumis, a British-Greek filmmaker and journalist whose work focuses on social movements, environmental issues, and conflict zones, and Guy Steward, an American fighter featured in the film. Joining them will be Drop Site investigative reporters Murtaza Hussain and Sharif Abdel Kouddous.
Murtaza Hussain has just returned from an extensive reporting trip in Syria, where he gained firsthand insights into the current situation on the ground. His upcoming articles and podcast episodes will offer in-depth perspectives on the region's evolving dynamics and the aftermath of the conflicts depicted in the film.
