Grassroots Lobbying 101 Workshop

Join the Divest Philly from the War Machine Coalition for this Grassroots Lobbying 101 Workshop!

This event is a hybrid event, both in-person at the Independence Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia (18 S. 7th Street) and on Zoom. When you get register, you will receive the Zoom link to tune in online.

In this workshop, we will cover how to lobby your elected officials at the local, state, and national level, including how to write letters, make phone calls, and hold meetings with your representatives. These skills can be applied to any cause, including advocating for climate justice and a peaceful, nuclear-free world. After honing our lobbying skills, we'll hear from representatives from two local campaigns -- Tina Shelton representing Divest Philly and Eireann Clarion from Fridays for Future Philly -- to learn about current action opportunities.

Join us on January 25 to learn how to skill up as an activist and take action locally to address the existential crises of our times.

Workshop Presenter: David Gibson, Staff Coordinator, Peace, Justice, Sustainability NOW! (PJSN)
David Gibson began working for peace in 1984 with the Committee for a SANE Nuclear Policy
(SANE), and is currently the Staff Coordinator of Peace, Justice, Sustainability NOW! (PJSN), in Pennsylvania and Florida. PJSN is an Associate Member Group of Peace Action, which does various actions related to nuclear weapons, war, and climate change in the Philadelphia area. David is also on the National Staff of Peace Action serving as a Development Associate Organizer. David states that of all the things he's ever done, being his daughter's father has been the most important.

Organized by: Divest Philly from the War Machine, a coalition of 29 organizations in Philadelphia advocating to divest Philadelphia's Pension Fund from investments in nuclear weapons.
