US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has again landed in the region, starting in Israel and traveling to Egypt on Tuesday, in order to shore up support for a multi-lateral ceasefire in Gaza. He faces many problems, some of which are most likely insurmountable for the moment.

Prime minister Netanyahu clearly detests the idea of a true ceasefire, and Sinwar will not budge to accommodate Israel’s perpetually moving goal posts. If the Israeli government is intractable, and the US unwilling to apply pressure, then perhaps the Israeli people can force the issue.
