Forum on Christian Principles & the Gaza Crisis

Please join us in the Parish Hall on Sunday, July 21, at 11:30 for a talk featuring the Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon, Executive Director of Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP). Mae will discuss the Christian principles that should inform our engagement on the Gaza crisis, and then field questions. The session will also be available on Zoom (link: bit.ly/STJN-SpecialEvent) and will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

Mae is among those rare public speakers who possess a deep intellectual understanding of the scriptures and the commitment to lead in accordance with scriptural principles to address conflict and injustice. She shared her vision of social justice with us in October 2019, coming to St John’s to speak soon after our Holy Land Committee adopted advocacy as our 4th mission—building on our existing missions of education, interfaith activities, and humanitarian assistance.   Mae has published several books on social justice activism, including Social Justice Handbook, Just Spirituality, and A Land Full of God.

St. John’s is a local church partner of CMEP and the Episcopal Church is a board member denomination. Mae’s talk will be open to the public and all are welcome to attend; please invite family and friends who may be interested in peace—in its holistic meaning of well-being and completeness for all—in Israel and Palestine.
