Rep. Rashida Tlaib answers your questions, LIVE on Tuesday 7/2!
Where: Please register to join us on Zoom and pose questions to Rashida
Instead of looking to her for guidance and expertise as the brutal Gaza war continues to rage, Congress instead censured Representative Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in their halls. Early into the brutal Gaza war, the hawkish, pro-Netanyahu American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, began offering $20 million to local politicians to defeat the Congresswoman in her primary election. Thankfully they turned the underhanded offer down.
However, Rep. Tlaib has continued to face attacks and worse because she's a strong advocate for a ceasefire. On Tuesday, July 2nd, we have an opportunity to show her that she is not alone in wanting to see peace in her parents' homeland. Rep. Tlaib will be joining another of our “Meet the Candidates” special events. You can register here now to ask her about foreign policy.
Let’s turn out for a candidate who has turned out for us time and again. Let’s show Rashida that the 70% of Americans who support a ceasefire will have her back in appealing to her DC colleagues. Let’s remind the Congresswoman that her leadership and perseverance are critical and necessary in shifting the narrative away from the militaristic status quo.
Growing up the daughter of working-class Palestinian immigrants in southwest Detroit, Representative Tlaib is no stranger to the system that marginalizes and discriminates against people like her. As the first Muslim in Michigan’s Legislature, she often found herself pushing against special interests in order to stand up for local communities ravaged by their policies. She took on the billions of dollars of the Koch brothers and Marathon Oil, forcing them to remove toxic pollutants from Detroit’s riverfront. She took on bankers to stop fraudulent and predatory mortgages. She never stopped fighting for the most marginalized.
In 2018, she became one of the first two Muslim women in the US Congress. Despite often drawing the ire of the right, and even moderates from her own party, Rashida has been unafraid to fight for reform of the prevailing hawkish, militaristic, and imperialistic narrative in US foreign policy. Join us on July 2nd to ask her your questions about building a better U.S. foreign policy.
Let’s turn out for Rashida, who has always kept the vulnerable in mind, fighting for justice not only in her community but all over the world.
I hope to see you there, Lilly Dragnev, Campaigns Director,
