Join us for the second episode of our new free webinar series Palestine 101, where you will hear directly from Palestinian artists, activists, therapists, and educators about their lived experiences and learn about Palestine's rich culture. Together we will explore solidarity actions for a Free Palestine! We invite you to come along to listen, learn and amplify.
GUESTS: Maria Fakhouri is a proud Palestinian and the granddaughter of Nakba survivors. She is an unapologetically queer and decolonial psychotherapist, writer, poet, and all around advocate for love and humanity.
Gráinnemir - Amir is a Palestinian Queer Theatre Practitioner, Trainer and Facilitator based in Dublin. In 2017, they successfully completed a four-year programme at The Freedom Theatre (TFT) Jenin refugee Camp, Palestine, that focused on Theatre studies and cultural resistance. Working Within the Local Community in Palestine, by listening to their stories and amplifying their Voices Through our shows.
These shows have toured nationally and internationally. Amir’s work currently focuses on Using physical Theatre, storytelling and Cultural resistance to confront oppression in all Forms of it.
Sorcha Fox has been invited by Amir to perfrom with them. Sorcha is based in North Leitrim. She has worked for 30 years in theatre as an actor, writer, director and facilitator. She was co-ditector of Benbo Productions with Donal O'Kelly. She directed The Bed for Cairde Arts Festival with artists Charmaine Matonsi, Amir Abualrob, Wasekere-Sekerani, Abigail (Ashley) Ramaabya, Grace Moyo and Nokwanda Siziba, Rafeef Ziadah and Donal O'Kelly. In 2017 she completed a course in Theatre and Cultural Resistance at the Freedom Theatre, Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine. She works regularly with artist Amir Abualrob as a collaborator on The One of Many project and directed The Road for Amir's Time at the Well in Hawkswell Sligo. She is currently developing a new piece called Khallass/Enough with Amir. She completed a residency at The Hawkswell with Palestinian poet Rafeef Ziadah resulting in a collaborative spoken word performance of new work for Culture Night entitled Medusa. She has twice been awarded an Arts Council bursary for her performance poetry.
HOST: Farrah Koutteineh is a journalist and writer focused on intersectional activism including the Decolonise Palestine movement, indigenous people's rights, anti-establishment movement, women's rights and climate justice. Koutteineh is also the founder of KEY48 - a voluntary collective calling for the immediate right of return of over 7.4 million Palestinian refugees.
ORGANISERS: Artists Against Genocide is a Belfast based artists collective coming together in support for Palestinian liberation. Our aims are to communicate and educate through words, art, and demonstration.
Comhlámh is the Irish Association of Development Workers and Volunteers, and a membership-based organisation, that has over 45 years’ experience of solidarity-based engagement that addresses the most pressing issues of our time. We support people and organisations to mobilise for global justice, including through values-based volunteering, humanitarian responses, and active citizenship. All Comhlámh’s work is underpinned by a commitment to Global Citizenship Education (GCE), which deepens understanding of the structural causes of inequality, unsustainability, as well as the connections between local and global challenges. Overall, Comhlámh provides a unique and vital space to work in solidarity with others towards a shared goal of a world beyond injustice.
