Reminder: This Friday’s peace vigil for Gaza will begin at 11:15 am and conclude at 12:15 pm.The Leadership Team of Fridays @ Fetterman’s decided to start Friday vigils earlier in 2025 to make it possible for Muslim allies to attend and still be able to attend Friday worship and prayer services in the early afternoon.
Mohammed Shariff, a Philadelphia Muslim leader and activist, will be the featured presenter at tomorrow’s (1.3.25) Friday peace vigil outside of Senator Fetterman’s Philadelphia office.
Mohammed Shariff - From a young age, Mohammed Shariff was raised to speak up for social justice. In the 1990s, his parents brought him to the United Nations in New York to join with the movement calling for ending the genocide in Bosnia.
While attending college in the early 21st century, he was active against the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Today, Mohammed is a Philadelphia resident, a husband, and a loving father of two children. He is involved with two mosques in downtown Philadelphia. He works hard to make his community a better place by advocating for inclusivity of Arab and Muslim children in the Philadelphia school district’s classrooms. Mohammed is a Commissioner in Mayor Cheryl Parker’s Department of Muslim Engagement.
Mohammed is also a connector and peacemaker in his neighborhood. He makes sure that he knows everybody on his block, and he takes the time to engage his neighbors in fun conversation that builds bonds of common humanity.
