Bring Your People Mass Meeting: New York Edition

At Showing up for Racial Justice, we believe that when regular people come together across lines of difference, we can pull off big things. In the face of the many crises of the world right now, it can feel like nothing we do is as big as what’s needed. But this year, we don’t have to do everything – we have to do our part.

We are in the midst of a genuine threat to our democracy, tens of thousands dead in Gaza, and the growth of far right, authoritarian power in our government– from school boards to Congress. At SURJ, we mobilize white people because we believe we have an important responsibility to organize our communities away from racism and into movements for change. The status quo relies on our silence and inaction, so we break that by coming together in community to take action.

Join SURJ NYC, SURJ Westchester and SURJ National for an in person meeting in New York where we’ll practice just that: gathering in community to take stock of this moment and commit to action. We’ll share food, laughs, and music, and connect with other regular people coming together to learn our part.

Together we'll cover: - What is the role of white people in fighting for racial and economic justice? - What are we doing in 2024 to build a better future for all of us? - What are specific skills that will support us in doing our part this year and beyond? - We’ll also give you clear action steps into our current work- including protecting NY’s very own Rep. Jamaal Bowman in his Democratic primary race in June!

Anyone is welcome - your friend, your neighbor, or your family members! SURJ organizes in white communities around the specific role and responsibility white people have, but anyone who wants to organize white people is welcome at this meeting. No experience with SURJ or organizing needed. Join us and bring your people!
