"Understanding Hamas & Why That Matters": Public Conversations Hosted by Rami G. Khouri & Helena Cobban

In May 2024, Just World Ed is presenting a five-part series of public conversations, co-hosted by our board member Rami G. Khouri and president, Helena Cobban, on the topic of "Understanding Hamas & Why That Matters". In these conversations, we will bring in a variety of experts on different aspects of the history and development of this movement, whose full name is “The Islamic Resistance Movement”, and which plays a significant role within the broader movement for Palestinian national liberation.

In this (5th) webinar in our "Understanding Hamas & Why That Matters" series, our guest will be Dr. Azzam Tamimi, a respected British-Palestinian specialist on Islamic political thought and West Asian politics, and the distinguished author of several well-received books on these topics. (You can listen to an informative, 50-minute interview that "The Thinking Muslim" podcast conducted with Dr. Tamimi last December, here.)

The book on Hamas that Dr. Tamimi published in 2007 was published in the UK under the title of Hamas Unwritten Chapters and in the USA under the intriguing title of Hamas: a History from Within...

For this session in our series, we have changed our format a little and will devote more of the time in the webinar to questions coming from "the general public", rather than just-- as we've done so far-- from my board colleague Rami G. Khouri and myself.

So we're inviting attendees in this session to pre-submit to us up to two questions of their (your) own, which we hope would be the questions that you would most like to have thoughtfully answered by someone "close to Hamas." (We all certainly welcome "hard" questions, along with any others that you'd like to ask.)

We've created this little form so you can tell us what one or two questions you would most like to ask Dr. Tamimi. Please send us your questions via that form before 5pm ET on Tuesday (apologies for late listing, but interested persons should still try - NENJP Calendar), so Rami and I have time to organize them before Thursday's webinar. We will probably give priority to people who are ready and willing to pose their questions on-air to Dr. Tamimi, this Thursday.

We're very much looking forward to seeing what questions you seek answers to!

By the way, whether or not you want to pose a question to Dr. Tamimi, it is not too late to register for this last webinar in our series! You can do so by clicking this link. And a reminder: If you already registered for one of the previous webinar sessions, you do not need to register again.

Note: If you registered for earlier webinars in this series, that registration is good for all the sessions, and you'll receive reminders shortly before each is presented. If you did NOT register for the first session you can sign up at any time for the sessions that remain! Use this link to do so.
