5/28 (Zoom) NOW AT 8:00 PM - Meet the Candidate with Rep. Jamaal Bowman (Peace Action)

Tuesday, May 28, 8:00 PM - Zoom

UPDATE - THIS EVENT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR 7:30 BUT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 8:00 PM

Peace Action’s Meet the Candidate with Rep Jamaal Bowman

The most closely watched, and potentially tightest, primary election race in the nation also involves one of Peace Action’s strongest allies in Congress. On June 25, Rep. Jamaal Bowman is facing off in a primary election against an opponent backed by millions in pro-war Super PAC money.

Next Tuesday, May 28th, Rep. Bowman will be joining us in our next “Meet the Candidates” conversation to talk about his historic race and to answer your questions about building a more peaceful U.S. foreign policy. Register here to join us!

Earlier this week we hosted a conversation with Rep. Ilhan Omar, who emphatically made the case for how important it is to protect the pro-peace champions we’ve worked so hard to get into Congress. And in this primary, Jamaal Bowman needs our help.

Jamaal was one of the earliest members of Congress to speak out for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and his bold stance has drawn the ire of dark-monied interests that wish to continue with the militaristic foreign policy status quo. A Super PAC affiliated with the ultra-hawkish American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has revved up its campaign spending, pouring in $2 million to oppose Jamaal Bowman. The Super PAC, called United Democracy Project (UDP), is spending about $1 million in support of Bowman’s opponent George Latimer, and another $1 million in negative advertisements opposing Bowman. AIPAC itself has dumped an additional $600,000 into the race against Bowman. If they succeed in defeating Jamal, it will deliver a significant blow to the progressive, pro-peace wing we’ve built in the House.

In addition to his bold and outspoken leadership for a ceasefire in Gaza, Jamaal has been a key ally of ours in working to change the overall course of U.S. foreign policy toward peace. He’s routinely pointed out that progressive changes to US foreign policy are desperately needed, telling us that “we need someone focused not on finding money for bombs and bullets, but for schools, health care and jobs,” and he’s proven that he’s willing to put in the hard and courageous work needed to challenge pro-war interests and build a new approach to U.S. international relations. Join us on Tuesday, May 28th to ask him your questions about how to create a better, more peaceful U.S. foreign policy.

RSVP: Please register to join us on Zoom and pose questions to Jamaal.

Let’s turn out big for Jamaal, who has spent the last few years fighting for justice and will continue to do so despite challenges by pro-war, dark money interests, and personal threats.
