This lecture will explore some of the historical and defining dynamics that have led to the current war with a focus on the pivotal role of civil society. Dr. Roy will examine the ways in which civil society—the spinal cord of Palestinian life—has been weakened over time, a form of assault that has now assumed its most extreme form. The lecture will conclude with some reflections on the “day after” and the essence of a meaningful and sustainable resolution.
