Lecture by Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish
Dr. Abuelaish is a Palestinian doctor, born in Gaza, whose three daughters and neice were killed by Israel in 2009. He subsequently wrote a memoir, I Shall Not Hate, and established the Daughters of Life Foundation. He is one of the founders of Seeds of Peace, a summer camp that brings together young people of different faiths and nationalities to build connection and confidence and discuss the challenges to peace. He will be joined by USM President Jacqueline Edmondson, who will announce the formation of a partnership between USM and the Daughters for Life Foundation.
The Daughters for Life Foundation believes that lasting peace in the Middle East depends on the empowerment of girls and young women through educational opportunities that are often denied them. In so doing, they will become agents of change for the betterment of life throughout the Middle East. To help fulfill this vision, the foundation has established partnerships with several institutions across North America and Europe, including several universities that will sponsor these young women in their educational journeys.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
