Why We Boycott: BDS, Palestine, & Scream 7

Learn more about how the cultural boycott of Scream 7 is a part of the larger movement for justice in Palestine.

In November 2023, Spyglass Media Group fired Melissa Barrera from the Scream franchise for making statements in support of Palestine and in opposition to the genocide in Gaza. Specifically, she shared an essay by Israeli scholar of Holocaust and genocide studies Raz Segal, who called the events in Gaza a "textbook case of genocide." In addition to firing her, Spyglass falsely accused her of antisemitism, without evidence, leading to an organic, fan-led boycott movement online.

At this event, we will learn more about the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel; the feminist values of boycott; how we should respond to bad faith accusations of antisemitism; and why fans of the Scream franchise should understand this boycott as part of the broader BDS movement. We will also discuss ways that you can support the boycott of Scream 7.
