Teach-in on Palestine - Hear from Hazem Jamjoum on the history behind the genocide in Gaza and the Palestinian freedom struggle.
By Global Justice Now
Struggling to know where to begin with your reading on Palestine? Want to understand why Israel is described as an apartheid state?
Join our Palestine teach-in event for Global Justice Now supporters, which will provide an overview of the historic events that led to the displacement of Palestinians, including the Balfour Declaration, the Nakba ('the Catastrophe'), and the 1967 war. We’ll also look at how these atrocities laid the foundations for the present-day crisis in Gaza, where Israel's assault has resulted in the killing of 29,000+ people, the displacement of 1.9 million Palestinians, severe malnutrition, and an International Court of Justice investigation for genocide.
We will be joined by Palestinian archivist, historian, and writer, Hazem Jamjoum, on the day. Jamjoum's work focuses on political-economy approaches to Israeli colonialism among other areas. He is also a skilled translator, with his most recent translation being Ghassan Kanafani's 'The Revolution of 1936-39 in Palestine.'
Jamjoum's presentation will be followed by a Q/A with the audience.
