Palestine and Israel: The Historical Roots of Contemporary Tragedies
Mitchell Silver will survey the relevant history of the land, the Jews, and the Palestinians that has resulted in all of the suffering and horrors we have witnessed recently. Not a polemic or advocacy, the lecture will provide a context to better understand and interpret current events. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.
Boston-based writer and educator Mitchell Silver has traveled to Israel/Palestine many times since his first visit in 1971, and has spoken and written widely about the history and politics of the region. He has taught philosophy at UMass/Boston, Tufts, and Stella Maris University in Liberia, and for many years was educational director of the I. L. Peretz Sunday School of the Boston Workers Circle. He is the author of Respecting the Wicked Child: A Philosophy of Secular Jewish Identity and Education, The Veterans of History: A Young Person's History of the Jews and other books.
