Teach-in: Frameworks in Global Health Beyond Borders - How to Resist the Silencing of Healthcare Workers Speaking Out Against Genocide

As millions have mobilized across the globe to oppose Israel’s ongoing genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people, healthcare workers’ solidarity has been met with threats of violence, institutional repression, and disciplinary sanctions. In a field that typically extols the role of the physician-as-advocate, how might we connect the same frameworks through which we theorize the structural determinants of health and disease worldwide to the unprecedented efforts to silence and discipline physician activism in solidarity with Palestine? How might these theories help us to make sense of and resist the tactics used to silence healthcare workers speaking out against a genocide?

Join UCSD students in-person or via Zoom for a panel and teach-in with Dr. Jess Ghannam (UCSF), Dr. Karameh Hawash-Kuemmerle (Harvard Medical School, Boston Children's), Dr. Nidal Jboor (Internist & Co-Founder of Doctors Against Genocide) Dr. David Mills (FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, Harvard University), and Dr. Bram Wispelwey (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital)!
