DETROIT: Join Moratorium Now at their next weekly meeting for two important presentations, and group discussion, on the origins of the settler colonial Zionist project, the dismantling of Palestine, the unfolding events in Syria and the region, and the continued struggle for liberation.
Moratorium Now is joined this week by the local Coalition Against Genocide, PYM-Detroit, Detroit Anti-War Committee and the Detroit Mercy SJP chapter.
TOPICS & GUEST SPEAKERS:
1. The Settler Colonial Zionist Project: Palestine Dismantled (speaker: Dr. Ismail Noor) -
Dr. Ismail Noor is a Palestinian sociologist and Nakba survivor who was forced to leave Palestine in 1967. He has experience in local student activism in the 80s/90s (serving in GUPS) and is a PhD in Sociology. Ismail will be discussing the broader issue of settler colonialism and the role and reasons it has in dismantling Palestine. He will expand on the broader region and continued struggle for liberation.
2. The Syrian Crisis Evolves – A Look Toward the Future (speaker: Joseph Mchahwar) -
Joseph Mchahwar is a Syrian-American and local activist. He has written and lectured about the war on Syria throughout the years of its development. Joseph will be discussing the current situation in Syria, who the players are, and recent gains and losses. The future of Syria, the resistance axis, and the emerging multipolar world will also be examined in this talk.
