Ray McGovern and Scott Ritter: Bringing JFK and his Vision of Peace Back to Life

Ray McGovern and Scott Ritter will be speaking with the JFK Peace Speech Committee at 7:00pm eastern time on November 22, 2024. November 22 is the 61 year anniversary of the assassination of JFK.

Ray McGovern joined the analysis side of the CIA in 1963, after President Kennedy's inaugural call, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." In the early 70s, Ray led the CIA’s Soviet Foreign Policy Branch, which played a key role in the conclusion of the ABM treaty signed in 1972. He also chaired National Intelligence Estimates. From 1981-85, he conducted early morning one-on-one briefings of The President’s Daily Brief. Ray was awarded the Intelligence Commendation Medallion at retirement, but later returned it, saying he did not want to be associated – however remotely – with torture. He is fluent in Russian, German, and Spanish. Like Scott, Ray is a member of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS).

Scott Ritter is a former Marine Corps Intelligence officer and former United Nations Special Commission Weapons inspector in Iraq. He also played a significant role as inspector in the implementation of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, INF. He has authored nine books including Disarmament in the Time of Perestroika: Arms Control and the End of the Soviet Union (2022), Dangerous Ground: America's Failed Arms Control Policy from FDR to Obama, 2009, and Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Anti-War Movement 2007.

Ritter has been an outspoken critic of the US role in Ukraine and in Israel's expanding war in the Middle East. He has been a strong voice for peaceful co-existence between the US and Russia. He has travelled, lectured and made films endeavoring to foster better understanding by Americans of Russia, Russia's political leaders, and the Russian people. He has recently been the victim of US Justice Department attacks and harassment because of his political views and activities.
