USCMO Announces National Open Mosque Day on November 16-17, 2024
Washington, D.C. (10/12/2024) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) announces National Open Mosque Day, set for November 16-17, 2024. This nationwide initiative invites mosques to open their doors, fostering engagement with people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Purpose of Open Mosque Day - The event seeks to build bridges of understanding and promote interfaith dialogue. Attendees will meet imams and leaders, learn about Islamic traditions, and address any questions, fostering respect and cultural exchange.
Promoting Inclusiveness - “We hope this initiative will dispel misconceptions, promote tolerance, and cultivate inclusiveness,” said Oussama Jammal, secretary general of USCMO.
The event underscores the need for communities to unite, celebrate diversity, and recognize shared values.
Empowering Interfaith Conversations - Open Mosque Day aims to empower faith communities through meaningful discussions that promote unity and respect. “Interfaith outreach is key to addressing societal challenges,” Jammal added, highlighting the importance of turning dialogue into advocacy for the common good.
Participating Mosques - Several mosques and councils, including Majlis Ash-Shura – Islamic Leadership Council of New York, Shura Council – Voice of Southern California Muslims, Islamic Council of New England – ICNE: And Whose Affairs are conducted by Mutual Consultation, CIOGC – The Council of Islamic Organization of Greater Chicago, AMA – Arizona Muslims Alliance, Home • SoFlo Muslims, and more, have committed to participate. USCMO invites all U.S. mosques to join this effort, fostering bonds of friendship, collaboration, and shared humanity.
