In-Person Conversation with Journalists from Palestine

Hear from Palestinian journalists on the ground and from the first American journalist abducted in Palestine since October 7.

On October 8, 2024, five journalists led by Palestinian journalist Hussein Al-Hureini were kidnapped, interrogated, and beaten by Occupation forces in the Occupied West Bank. These journalists held American, Canadian, Russian, and Israeli citizenships.

Hussein Al-Hureini is a West Bank-based Palestinian journalist who documents crimes of the Occupation in the West Bank, acts as a civilian protector to Palestinians in danger of violence and harassment from settlers and Occupation forces, and is a dedicated Palestinian storyteller. This event is a fundraiser to support these efforts on the ground to help Palestinian journalists continue to document the Occupation. He will be joining via Zoom to speak on his experiences as a journalist under occupation.

He will be joined by American journalist Jeremy Loffredo of Grayzone News, and Sofia Fani, the photographer, who were abducted and brutalized by Israeli Occupation forces on that day. Both will be speaking in-person at The People’s Forum on their experiences as journalists in Palestine. Jeremy Loffredo is the first and to date the only American journalist abducted by Israel since October 7 of last year.

Hussein, Jeremy and Sofia’s story has been featured on Al Jazeera, The Intercept, The Guardian, Grayzone News, and RT World.

They will also be joined by former civilian protectors in Palestine who will talk about what activism on-the-ground in Palestine and will provide resources on how to get involved.

This event is co-sponsored by Pal-Awda Long Island, The People’s Forum, Code Pink NYC, and a coalition of activists and journalists from Palestine.
