How the charity sector failed Palestine (BSL)
Part of the Uncharitable Festival 2024 collection
Uncharitable is joined by Charity So White to discuss the findings from their survey on the UK charity sectors response to Palestine (BSL)

Uncharitable Festival is back! We have transformed #BAMEOnline conference into a festival running throughout October exploring racism in charity and philanthropy, strategies for resisting systems of oppression, and re-imagining pathways to liberation.
“It is an overwhelmingly white organisation, the radio silence on this despite it dominating the external environment is shocking. I do not feel safe talking about this at work. My organisation is for people facing dying, death and bereavement - they issued external comms when Matthew Perry died, it is shocking they haven't said anything internally or externally about this.”
On 5th July 2024, Charity So White released findings from their survey into the sectors response to Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza. They concluded: The charity sector continues to fail Palestine and the people of Gaza. While we witness the most outrageous violations of international law, large swathes of the charity sectorstill remain silent. Instead of standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine and condemning Israel's genocidal action, far too many charity leaders have instead chosen to go after those staff that dare to speak out and exercise their moral rights.
63% of staff have also said they feel their charity’s response to Gaza does not align with the values of their charity - with many respondents saying that organisational values of equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism have been ignored when it comes to the suffering of Palestinians.
In this event, Charity So White will be joined by some guest speakers to unpack the role that charity sector has played in upholding the status quo of oppression of the Palestinian people and reflect on how the politics of the charity sector often put us on wrong side of history. And, most importantly why all charities should be standing with Palestine and how they can do that.
Our speakers are:
Jon Cornejo - Charity So White organiser, Campaigner and Anti-racism consultant at JMB Consulting
Falastine Dwikat - Palestinian writer and activist based in Ramallah.
Rosa Bransky - Co-CEO of Purposeful
Kema Daley - activist and youth worker currently awaiting trial for taking actions against Elbit systems.
Our event will be hosted on Zoom with BSL interpreters, and all ticket holders will have access to captions, and the recording.
