Protest, US Politics and the War in Gaza with Peter Beinart

Faculty of Law

Join us for a nuanced discussion on one of today’s most critical geopolitical issues.

In a year of atrocity and war in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, protest and activism rocked the University of Victoria. On the eve of the US elections, Peter Beinart, a leading journalist of the Jewish American left, and Neilesh Bose, UVic, discuss the causes and consequences of protest for US politics, the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement, freedom of speech, and the future of the region.

Peter Beinart is Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York. He is Editor-at-Large of Jewish Currents, a frequent contributor to MSNBC, and a fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace. His books include The Crisis of Zionism and Being Jewish after the Destruction of Gaza.

Neilesh Bose is Associate Professor of History and Canada Research Chair at the University of Victoria, specializing in global and comparative history.

Registration required for in-person attendance.

A livestream webinar will also broadcast this event.

We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose territory the University of Victoria stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
