Lessons In Allyship from Israel/Palestine

Suggestions for a holistic advocacy for Israel and Palestine and lessons for our personal social justice advocacy.

As we witness in real time the horrific loss of life in Israel/Palestine, many of us are asking, what can I do? How can I help? Whose side should I be on? What about the Rabbi in my interfaith group? We won't answer these questions for you, but we will present the important historical context that will allow you to grapple with these questions yourself.

Our informative presentation is designed to help us gain a better understanding of how we can holistically advocate for Jews and Palestinians in the midst of a horrific humanitarian crisis. We present this as a special event in our Critical Awareness/Critical Activation event series.

We'll have special statements from Najla Said, Palestinian-American actress and the daughter of the late Palestinian-American intellectual, Edward Said, and from a Jewish Voice for Peace activist working here in San Diego.

Presenters

Steve Slocum - Author of award winning, Why Do They Hate Us? Making Peace with the Muslim World, and founder of Salaam

Deirdre Encarnacion - Salaam's Director of Education. Deirdre holds degrees in Anthropology and Biology from SDSU and recently earned her Certificate of Specialization in Kumeyaay Studies from Kumeyaay Community College. For over ten years, she has been educating about indigenous cultures.
