Tuesday, January 23, 12:00 PM EDT
Simultaneous rallies will be held at noon on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Boston, Worcester and Springfield offices of Acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua Levy, urging him to enforce the U.S. Leahy Law, which under current circumstances in Gaza and the West Bank, prohibits the shipment of U.S. weapons to the Israel Defense Forces.
The rallies will be held rain, snow or shine in solidarity with people in Gaza and the West Bank.
WHERE: Mr. Levy’s offices are in these U.S. Federal Courthouses located in: Boston – 1 Courthouse Way / Worcester – 595 Main Street / Springfield – 300 State Street.
We will rally outside the buildings and not attempt to enter the offices.
WHO: The rallies have been initiated by the Leahy Fast for Palestine Committee in Northampton and are being organized with the gracious help of organizers in western MA, Worcester and Boston. Here is an article on the committee: Daily Hampshire Gazette - Hungry for an end to war in Gaza: A month into a daily fast, Valley residents won’t stop until demands are met (gazettenet.com)
BACKGROUND: Josh Paul, who resigned on October 18, 2023 from his arms control position at the State Department to blow the whistle on the U.S. failure to enforce the Leahy Law and other laws in relation to Israel, has encouraged us to hold these rallies. He feels that not enough attention has been focused on the illegality of U.S. weapons shipments to the IDF. To date, over 24,000 Palestinians, 70 percent of whom are women and children, have be killed in Israel’s assault on Gaza and the West Bank.
On Dec. 28, the Leahy Fast for Palestine Committee wrote the attached letter to Acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Levy. No response has been received. LETTER TO ACTING U.S. ATTORNEY JOSHUA LEVY
