For many of us, praying for Peace in the Middle East seems like a prayer we have always prayed, much like praying before a meal or before going to sleep at night.

That all changed—again—in October 2023. As the cycle of violence and pain escalates, reaching levels of loss and horror that for many have been unimaginable, many of us find ourselves asking, “Will there ever be an end to the suffering and the losses? Will the people of the land ever achieve a lasting peace based on equality and a future of dignity for both peoples?”

A Palestinian physician, activist, and politician who serves as General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI). He has been a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council since 2006 and is also a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Central Council. In 2007, Barghouti was Minister of Information in the Palestinian unity government.
