8/6 The Middle East is Once Again West Asia with Chas Freeman - MEFF

Sunday, August 6, 1:00 PM EDT

Chas Freeman will discuss how the nations in "the Middle East" are no longer content to be defined by their geographical and other relationships with Europe. Rather, these nations are taking charge of their own places in the world, and in doing so, they are departing from two centuries of Western domination. They are cultivating their relations with China, India, Russia, Turkey, and others as nations of West Asia, a region with historic connections to the East, South, and North of Eurasia as well as to the West and Mediterranean. Their evolution is part of a broader set of changes in the world order, ending five centuries of Euro-Atlantic global dominance.
