The Homefront:
Challenges to Israeli Society During War

Netanyahu’s anti-democratic coalition has stepped up efforts to stifle free speech, including restrictions on Israelis advocating for peace, coexistence and Palestinian rights. Palestinian citizens of Israel are facing threats, academic expulsion, professional repercussions or even police crackdowns for acknowledging the pain of fellow Palestinians or for speaking out against violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

This Wednesday join J Street for a conversation with journalist Anshel Pfeffer and pro-democracy organizer Liat Weiss Shahaf about the situation within Israel during this ongoing crisis.

Together with J Street Chief of Staff Adina Vogel Ayalon, our guests will discuss how Israelis are responding to the government’s treatment of survivors, displaced communities and critics of the war.

Anshel Pfeffer has covered Israeli politics, global affairs and the legacy of Netanyahu for over two decades. He is a senior correspondent and columnist for Haaretz and Israel correspondent for The Economist.

Liat Weiss Shahaf serves as a leader in Brothers and Sisters in Arms, a collective of IDF reservists opposed to Netanyahu’s judicial coup which has its grassroots network to connect survivors and displaced Israelis to resources and support.
