11/30 Israel-Palestine: How Do We Talk About the Conflict (for educators)

Israel - Palestine: How do we talk about the conflict?

An event for educators interested in holding space for supported discussion of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Jehan Al-Azzawi is a Transition Teacher in Liberton Learning Community. Before becoming a teacher Jehan was an academic specializing in politics and international relations. Her PhD is in Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Her expertise in this field relates to Islamist political movements, Hamas and Hezbollah in particular.

This webinar is designed to support teachers in schools to engage their learners with confidence in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. The perception of this 75-year old conflict as complex and controversial has resulted in a reluctance and fear by educators to hold space for supported discussion of the issues in UK schools.

However, many children, young people and their families are either affected by the current hostilities or are simply interested in developing a deeper understanding of the conflict. Schools must be a place where young people are taught how to engage in respectful dialogue and debate about real-world issues.

This webinar will provide advice and tips, as well as signpost high quality resources to support teachers to address the Israel-Palestine conflict in their classrooms.
