Teach-in on the current healthcare crisis in Palestine sponsored by healthcare workers for Palestine.
All ticket sales/donations will be donated to healthcare workers on the ground in Gaza.
As of October 26th, the Gaza Health Ministry has declared that the healthcare system is in a “state of complete collapse.” There is no avenue for sufficient fuel, aid, electricity, water, and now telecommunications, and healthcare workers are struggling to provide care and safety for the ill and injured and the thousands taking shelter in hospitals and clinics. As the genocide unfolds, at least 7,326 people have been killed, including 3,000 children, 1.5 million internally displaced, 18000 others injured, with potentially thousands still buried under the rubble (numbers have risen since this writing). Those that survive are treated without basic medications and medical supplies, such as antiseptics and anesthetics which are rare, all the while staff and their family members remain targets of this relentless military onslaught.
The ongoing health catastrophe has escalated in recent weeks, but for decades the healthcare system was already in crisis. The blockade on Gaza has made it nearly impossible to build a sustainable healthcare infrastructure and the apartheid system presents unique difficulties in receiving and providing care within the occupied lands. Militarism and discriminatory policies in the settler colonial setting reverberates into the realms of critical care, mental health, women’s health, disability, chronic disease management, surgery, public health, among many others. This event aims to highlight the extent of the current healthcare catastrophe and highlight the foundational structural determinants that affect the lives of Palestinians. Additionally, we will discuss existing networks and organizations that aim to address these ever-present issues and highlight ways for our community in solidarity to advocate and assist these efforts.
Please sign Healthcare Workers for Palestine’s petition for the international healthcare community to stand in solidarity with Palestine.
