Details: Learn about the Israeli military detention and court system and its impact on Palestinian children. Defense for Children International - Palestine will take us to Ofer military court and Al-Jalazoun refugee camp, a community frequently targeted by Israeli forces. There, we'll hear from a former child prisoner about his detention experience and learn about how Israeli occupation infrastructure like settlements and checkpoints makes communities more vulnerable to military raids and detention. DCIP staff will also discuss how you can support H.R. 2590, legislation recently introduced in the U.S. Congress that seeks to prevent Israel from using U.S. tax dollars to commit human rights violations, including child detention.

Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP) is an independent, local Palestinian child rights organization dedicated to defending and promoting the rights of children living in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Since 1991, we have investigated, documented, and exposed grave human rights violations against children; provided legal services to children in urgent need; held Israeli and Palestinian authorities accountable to universal human rights principles; and advocated at the international and national levels to advance access to justice and protection for children.

Your Guide: Manar Al-Amieh who serves as an International Advocacy Officer at Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP). She holds a BA with a major in journalism and a minor in sociology from Birzeit University. Prior to joining DCIP, Manar worked as a media officer in both governmental and non-governmental organizations in different sectors, which helped her gain knowledge in human rights, entrepreneurship, arts and other fields.
